So the doodles for the last few days are breaking the rules a bit. I am working on a series of characters to send off as a goodie/portfolio box to one of my favorite magazines.

So allow me to introduce, Little Blue, Coconut-man and Wheatgrass-man! They are part of the Superfood Supergroup that I am creating…names may change. I will be doing the Superfoods as the next few doodles of the day and then we will go back to normal doodles from peoples submissions, and please submit more words!!! I’m running out!!!

Hello every one! Again I’m sorry I’m not keeping up to well with these but before the end of the year there will be 365 doodles one way or another!

For this week I am using Natalia’s quote, “You wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it.” I decided to do another how I work series so here are a bunch of images for you!

1: Reference. again a huge thanks to FantasyStock on DA for the amazing stock photos that she puts up. http://fantasystock.deviantart.com/art/Jodi-Paceful-Elf-Daydreaming-33047929

2: Drawing. Here is step one after getting the stock. I do a basic line drawing getting everything placed where I want it.

3: This is a shot of the basic color blocking. I get my local colors down with a little bit of detail in the mask. You can see off to the side I laid down a basic color palette.

4: This is when I begin having fun with photo textures, Caelie loves using photo textures! They are a little hard to see but I applied a texture to both the mask and the hair.

5: This step is when I add in the dark side of the figure. I do this but creating a new layer on top of the textures and colors filling it with a 50% black the erase out where I don’t want the darkness to be. It’s a bit round about but for the life of me I can’t remember how to do a masking layer.

6: This is the final Illustration. I am trying with a lot of my work to get an Art Nouveau kind of feel so I am using a lot of free floral vectors that you can find online.

So this was a fun one. Innitally I tried to go more literal with the quote however I found it was not coming along well…mostly because I wasn’t having fun with it. So I switched to something more conceptual. Thoughts?

Our quote is from Natalia…not sure where she got it from…

Alrighty, so This is another on for illustration Friday. Their word for this week was Storm. It dawned on me when I was developing ideas for this one that I hadn’t done any photo manipulation in quite awhile so I decided to go that route.
