Artist Statement
The first play I ever saw was Peter Pan The Ballet, at the Denver Center for the Preforming Arts 2003. It took me another 9 years to figure out that I wanted to be a part of that community in some way. Theater posters are my way of combining the two art forms that I enjoy; besides I have terrible stage fright so acting was out of the question.
With my posters I am hoping to achieve a somewhat modern and graphic feel as well as encompassing the entirety of the play. 90% of all Theatrical posters that I have ever seen feature a photo from a scene in the play, or a drawing, or strictly well-done type. With my posters I want to capture the feeling of the play itself, not just a single moment. Is the play a comedy, tragedy, or a musical? Along with capturing this I want to make the type into an aesthetically pleasing portion of the poster as well.
Poster design is a way from me to take my abilities as an Illustrator and combine them with my abilities as a Designer. My ability to both create a drawing that looks good and that naturally fits the needed design and information.
